Pumpkin Pie Spice

It's pumpkin season in Ontario. There certainly hasn't been a shortage of pumpkin recipes this year, put no matter if it's pumpkin pie, muffins, cupcakes or bread, there is a lot of consistency in the spices and many of the recipes call for pumpkin pie spice. Not wanting to buy an entire jar of pumpkin pie spice, I found a recipe to make my own using ingredients in my own spice cabinet. Pumpkin crisis averted!

Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

Directions

  • In a small bowl, mix together the spices
  • Store in an airtight container

Taco Seasoning

For years I bought those Old El Paso packets of taco seasoning. The last time I looked at it, I read the package. Unless you're interested in following this recipe, do not read the package.

I searched www.allrecipes.com for an easy substitute and not surprisingly, I was not disappointed. What was even better was that I had every one of these spices in my spice cabinet! I love a recipe that requires no extra shopping!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Directions

  • In a small bowl, mix all spices together
  • Store in an air tight container
